U.S. Junior Nationals Birthday
U.S. Junior Nationals was created in 1986 by Mike Flynn as the first privately owned travel team event that brought top level AAU teams from all over the country under one roof to compete in front of college coaches. It was an elite tournament of the top 16 teams in the country converging on William & Mary's campus for under 100 college coaches watching... And USJN was born.
1992 - USJN became one of if not the first girls' basketball event operators to use the internet/world wide web.
1998 - Its 17u Championships in Washington DC drew so much attention nationally that Nike came in as a sponsoring partner to the group and have been with USJN ever since.
2005 - Chris Mennig came on board with Mike Flynn after coaching at various college levels for 11 years, and gave the website its first mini-facelift.
2008 - The present online operating system was implemented - showing colleges/logos that attended / pool all-stars / hotels / scheduling / etc. An expansion of Non-D1 regional exposure events was implemented to help allow Division II, Division III, NAIA, Junior College coaches the chance to evaluate as well as national scouting services. 2008 saw just over 1,200 teams participate in 17 events (74.8 teams/event)
2012 - USJN unveiled its 'live scoring' feature to the events. Game results were updated/streamed live on the USJN website during the event. 2012 closed out the year with just under 2,500 teams participating in 27 events across the country (92.1 teams/event)
2013 - USJN receives it first new branding campaign in 27 years of operation, with the approval of Nike grassroots program - Happy Birthday USJN! You deserve it.
